We started off 4th of July with the community centers annual bike parade. Thomas decked his bike out, with my help, and happily rode around the circle with all the other kiddos. Elin was happy to be part of the team and clapped and watched. She got to enjoy a popsicle at the end and that made it all worth it for her.
The morning of the 4th we went down to the Center for Wooden Boats to check things out. There was a festival and many people had their “wooden” boats docked for people to check out. Elin slept the 1st part of the day and then woke up with a surprised “boat?” It also just happened to be the free day for the Museum of History and Industry so we went in to check it out. After looking at the boats and a few exhibits, Thomas was able to make a wooden boat and and a periscope. Although we didn’t get tons of time to read while chasing the Littles, it was interesting to read about the history, or what we could.
After we had our fill of the museum we headed back outside where we fed the ducks, strolled around the festival and then had a picnic in the park. After Thomas constructed his boat we headed home. Both kids were quickly asleep in the car and Mike as it was a fun, yet exhausting morning.
Once home Mike and I started prepping for our impromptu BBQ. We were joined by good friends and all had a good time chilling in our front yard, watching the kids play, eating and relaxing. We did our best to get a picture of the 4 kiddos in their 4th gear, as you can see it was quite challenging. T e kiddos also got their first taste of “whipper snappers” and enjoyed 30 seconds of fun throwing them on the ground.
As it got dark we walked down to Nathan and Whitney’s house as their balcony has a view of the fireworks from afar. It was a great way to get to see the sparkles and not have to worry about the traffic or headache of going to the actual park. Then it was home to bed for everyone.
The next morning we headed over to see the pirates land at Alki Beach. The neighbor boys joined us. They were much earlier this year than the last time we were there and we almost missed the show. The guys were still able to see the pirates and get a picture with Captain Hook and a few of the pirates. We then had lunch before we headed home.
It was a great and very festive 4th of July for us. Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday with their friends and families!
