Body Painting?

Elin needed to eat and just at the same time, Thomas decided he needed to paint.  I told him that he must sit at the table and paint while I fed Elin, he said ok and happily painting the whole time I was on the couch nursing Elin and watching him contently paint.

Thomas quickly decided he must paint himself and got to work.  In 5 minutes he has successfully painted his legs, tummy and everywhere in between.  Time for a bath.   He did follow the directions though, as I had said “paint and don’t leave your chair until Mommy helps you.”  Too funny my little Picaso!October 20125

Painting with a twist or cut to be exact!

October 20126

Thomas continues to be refuse going into get it cut.  In fact the last time I asked if he wanted to get his hair cut he said “no, do it on the table.”  So rather than fight him on this he will keep getting my best haircut shaping.  This time I wasn’t up for the big mess cleanup so I thought of something new.  I put a chair in the bathtub and let him paint away while I cut.  I tried the clippers on him, as I know it would look much better, but he said it was too loud and scary for him.  After the haircut I was trying to get a picture and Mr. Urkel showed up.  What a goon!

1st Trip to the Dentist

There are no pictures to document this occasion, if I did have any they would be comical to say the least.  I am sure that every woman in the dentist’s office was was sweating, I know I was.

I had a tooth that had chipped so I also had to have the dentist check things out.  So I went first to show Thomas it wasn’t anything to be nervous about.  As soon as I left Elin’s sight (they needed to get an x-ray), from her car seat, she started to scream.  Now this is not a little scream this is a high pitched ear piercing scream letting you know she is mad and means business.  The dental assistant scooped her us, had her and Thomas looking at me, and then handed her to me as soon as the x-ray was taken.  Screaming done there.  This whole time the dental hygienist is trying to bribe Thomas to smile at her; toys, candy you name it she tried it and he wasn’t even budging.

Then it was time for the dentist to come in.  She checked my teeth, all looked well.  Will have to get the tooth fixed, but at least I wasn’t screaming (back in the day I would have been).  Then it was Elin’s turn, she semi cooperated she smiled and showed off her 2 bottom teeth.  Then came Thomas.  So off Elin went to the hygienist, instantly screaming.  The dentist had her mask on, glasses, and gloves.  Thomas was not impressed and was not cooperating.  No bribe was helping him think this was an ok situation.  After telling him he at least needed to smile or Mommy was going to help the Dentist see his teeth.  So in my fingers went, the dentist said all looked well and that was that.  He doesn’t need to go back to the dentist for a year, unless something changes, relief.  Whew, time for a shower because pretty sure my shirt was soaked.

Lesson’s learned.  ALWAYS TAKE A CHILD TO A PEDIATRIC DENTIST.  This woman is a fine dentist and knows her stuff and I appreciate her, in fact she has been great to both Mike and I.  BUT until this exact moment I didn’t realize she had ZERO kid sense, or no idea how to appease a terrified toddler for a few seconds before she wanted to get in his business. (I should note here Thomas is a tough little stink, he has yet to willingly open his mouth for any doctor or dentist).  She didn’t even talk to the poor guy before he was suppose to perform for her.   Looking back on it, it will be a LESSON LEARNED.  Mike and I will continue to see her and the next check up will be at a completely different place.   Lets hope this wasn’t enough to totally turn him off from dental care.  His parents are working on being better examples too.  Feel free to leave any tips if you have them.

30 Months, 2.5 Years , 912 Days

IMG_1950IMG_1867Thomas is doing so much now that it seems next to impossible to put “who he is” into a few paragraphs. So here are a few highlights…

Thomas is quickly turning into a little boy. He is still a little stuck between wanting and needing to be coddled/cuddled and a baby and wanting to be a big boy with his own autonomy.

Thomas is in his big boy bed to start the night! He started this on September 5th and hasn’t looked back since. He naps in there, starts off the night in there and then comes into our room sometime in the early morning. IMG_1865

He is still his Daddy’s little buddy and wants to be just like him.  Mama is still the go to when he is sad, tired or upset.

He loves going for bike rides or running so fast.  He thinks it is awesome that he has “friends.”

More things/funny sayings…

“Baby E your my girl.”

“I want to go see my friends.” which is any kid around his age.

“me fo big now" (I'm so big now). I can cross the street without holding your hand, I can do ----, I don't need your help for ---, or I want to try ---(adult) thing like flossing his teeth.

He will see something funny and then will put his hands together fingers very tight and say “What? What?

"No my goot" ( no I'm good) I don't want or need to go to the bathroom, get a drink, put a jacket on, ect.

“Mama/Dada, I cry for wu (you)” when he was upset if we were away, which is usually followed by “I not cry now, see, I fo (so) big now.”
