Camping Trip to Pagosa Springs

DSC09871This weekend we took our first camping adventure. We went “car camping” so we could bring all our gear. DSC09853It made Mike feel like he was Clark Griswold because we were packed full with everything we could think we would possibly need. After the trip ended-we did have far too much-but better safe than sorry! We DSC09848headed out on Friday and made it half way 2.5 hours before DSC09862we stopped in Salida for dinner and a stretch break. Thomas then went to bed and we headed on our way. We pulled into town about 10 and headed to the campsite. We were camping on private riverfront land-with the school and city blocks away! DSC09917It was interesting as we are used to either DSC09896backpacking in several miles or camping up in the mountains far from anything. DSC09866After setting up camp Thomas and I went to bed, the girls were close behind, while Mike and the boys stayed up and enjoyed the fire. Saturday we woke up and the boys got ready to fish. Us girls took our time then headed into town to the farmers market and to see what “spa” we wanted to go to. Then we met the boys for lunch. DSC09875Anette and I then headed to the mineral hot springs and enjoyed soaking for a couple hours. Then we headed back to camp so the boys could fish and we could make dinner. IMG_1815 Stella stepped on a hornet and got stung, so that was a bit of a scare. IMG_1809 So for the rest of the night she was snuggled up and hanging out, instead of playing with her other dog friends. Sunday we were on our way home after stopping in for breakfast.
Thomas really enjoyed his trip. Mom and Dad learned that even if your at lunch and it is a “covered spot” it might not offer enough protection from the sun. Poor guy got rosy cheeks and nose while we were enjoying lunch. He also did great on his longest car trip so far. With a little bit of milk in a syringe he handled the mountain passes like a champ too as we had 4 to go over before we got to Pagosa Springs. Camping adventure #1 was a success! Again more pictures are available at dropshots.DSC09930
