Denver Oyster Race 2010

WOW-We were in for a treat with this new adventure!

Mike and I signed up for this “Metro area adventure race.”  It is called the Oyster Race and it was started in Denver 7 years ago.  This race is a fun way to do a duathalon and supports the Make A Wish foundation.

Mike and I both spearheaded the “girls” and “boys” teams.  There was a whole lot of talk, that the girls team “didn’t stand a chance.”  To be honest, with 3 new mothers on the team, we were all a bit nervous.  Nonetheless, we trash talked back and a healthy bet was established.

The race started out with 1 team member being blindfolded and kidnapped, this was Mike and I.  We were allowed to get off the bus when the other teammates back at the transition area solved a puzzle.  Then the race was ON!  LEG 1-Find 3 statues and take pictures with your passport and 3 teammates.  August 2010LEG 2-Bike to a Chipotle, Make guacamole while zip tied to your teammate  LEG 3-Run to the Hilton, count the number of stairs to the 5th floor, then solve a puzzle, go to Denver Athletic Club and as a team burn 150 calories  LEG 4-Run to the Pepsi Center-find a magnet in section 323, run to Elitch Gardens-ride 1 amusement ride then ride the waterslide, LEG 5-Bike t o Denver University-shoot soccer balls into the net, LEG 6-Bike to a scooter shop-without hands eat a cupcake as a team-find the key to the scooter and ride it 1 block-bike to Blake Street Tavern and play beer pong-sink 3 and drink them then your off to the finish line!

I am a little sketchy on the details of legs 3 and 5 because those were my rest legs!  We all had a great time, Best of all THE GIRLS WON (well beat the boys team) and actually we finished in the top half of the teams, so that is a huge accomplishment too!

It was a fun and exhausting day.  The 95 degree heat didn’t help either.  We finished the race about 1 and were home around 3.  Thomas was a pretty good little boy when he hung out with our friends Crystal and Johne.   What a stink-he only took 2 oz of milk ALL DAY!  This was also a milestone for me, it was the longest I had been away from him, 7 hours is a long time!
