The neighborhood we live in in Seattle is Ballard. Historically it is where people of Scandinavian heritage settled due to the fishing industry.
Here in Ballard everyone is still proud of this heritage and it celebrates it by hosting a parade and other activities on Syttende Mai, or Norwegian Constitution Day.
Along with wanting to be part of our community and attend a parade it is always fun to celebrate Norway as both Mike and I loved the county on our visit and it reminds us of our two close friends who currently live there.
The parade was filled with Norwegian flags and traditional attire. It was a fun watching the kiddos enjoy the parade as well. Thomas and his friend Dahlia thought the suckers were pretty cool, but once the candy came out so did the big kids!
Elin loved clapping and dancing and if she could have joined the parade she was all in. Her little feet tried very hard to get her into the middle of the action.
I love Thomas’ face in these pictures. The look on his face is one of not knowing what to think of the Elf, I wonder if you asked him in that moment what he would have told you?
